Project Story
Project Brief
Following the success of the phased anti-ligature projects Willmott Dixon Interiors are currently delivering at St Michael’s Hospital in Warwick, on behalf of Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, we were appointed to deliver the replacement of new anti-ligature windows and doorsets to twelve wards of the Caludon Centre, the Mental Health Facility in Coventry, which was procured through the Procurement Hub Major Projects Framework.
Project Solution
These new anti-ligature windows are constructed from robust thermally enhanced mild steel profiles with stainless steel anti-ligature mesh specially secured in position. These windows have been rigorously tested to resist high security testing methods to ensure no patient can break in or out of the room either by themselves or with weapons.
The work was carried out in a live hospital environment so regular meetings with the customer were undertaken to ensure limited disruption to service users.
Project Outcome
Over 400 windows have been upgraded throughout the wards at the Caludon Centre, some of which are acute intensive care wards. These were installed mainly in patient accessible areas and bedrooms, where the windows have been fitted with integral electronic blinds. The windows provide natural light and ventilation which can be controlled by patients, and helps to maintain a safe, secure and anti-ligature environment to meet the requirements of the secure facility.
The team had to carefully plan out delivery logistics due to the location.
