Our Building Lives theme focuses on supporting the people and businesses in our communities to thrive.
In line with the Social Value Act, our approach focuses on working closely with our customers, supply chain, and the wider community to tackle social and economic challenges to create stronger and resilient communities.

We ensure our social value meets the needs of the local communities. At the start of every project we listen to our customers and their communities to identify local needs and priorities and develop social value plans and activities that offer the most benefit.
We are increasing our social impact by making sure all our business processes have social value at their heart. This includes signing up to become a real living wage employer, tackling modern slavery, and increasing spend with local SME’s and social enterprises.
We know having access to quality training and jobs can change the course of someone’s life. This has led us to create our new Careers Target. By 2030 we will support thousands of people who face significant barriers to be in or on the good path to good careers.

Through a collaborative and partnership approach, we work closely with our customers and communities to understand their key social value drivers, and the key impact projects to add maximum social return on investment.
Social Value is embedded into our processes from the very beginning of a project at pre-construction phase and measured right through to delivery using the National TOMs.
Customers and communities benefit from a bespoke Social Value Plan, access to our high-quality suite of social value activities, and robust reporting mechanisms which provide an in-depth understanding of the return on investment of all activities undertaken.
