Project Story
We delivered a refurbishment of 2 floors in the University’s Chemistry building to create new state of the art laboratory teaching and learning space. A strip out of all existing finishes was followed by a fit-out of the new space with high quality new benches, fume cupboards and technical equipment installed.
In addition, a full overcladding of the building was undertaken with new windows installed as a transformation of the building delivered vastly improved thermal insulation and energy performance. With the building positioned in a busy part of the university campus, a detailed logistics plan was put in place to ensure there was no disruption to the university’s day to day business. Assistance was provided with wayfinding internally within the building and externally with thoroughfares clearly shown.
Other works included; provision of new toilet facilities on all floors, refurbishment of all staircase areas, enhancements to existing entrance areas including improved DDA access and creation of link to adjoining teaching building.
The project has considerably improved facilities for the Chemistry Department which has maintained its reputation as one of the best universities in Europe to study Chemistry. The overall student experience has been enhanced and 150 students and 45 post doctoral staff now work on diverse multi disciplinary research in the new space which has been widely acclaimed by the users.
