The Guide to Delivering Sustainable Fit-out Projects

Willmott Dixon Interiors are please to announce the launch of the new CIRIA Fit-out environmental good practice on site guide (C757).

The fit-out sector faces unique challenges that include the need for a quick turnaround, controlling cost and programme as well as site constraints, while having potential to significantly affect the sustainability of the space both during fit-out and in use. Through our  expertise in sustainable processes we are proud to have contributed to the development of this guide.

The  guide provides practical, succinct guidance to support the delivery of fit-out projects applicable across a range of sectors (commercial, retail, education, leisure, health).

Users of the guide will be prompted with a number of key questions to consider at the various project stages. The guide also highlights opportunities for delivering sustainable fit-out projects, which are often carried out over very rapid timescales and on sites of very limited space.

This guide is focused on the contractor and specifically the site manager, but encourages co-operation between all parts of the supply chain to achieve good environmental practice.

Joe Cilia, Technical Manager, FIS, and Chair of the project steering group explained that the “Finishes & Interiors Sector have the potential to positively reduce any environmental impact during the fit out process and importantly, at an operational level and the on-going wellbeing of the staff who will ultimately work there. This guide will be a tremendous asset to the sector”.

Simon Tranter, Principal Sustainability Manager, Willmott Dixon Interiors explained that “we chose to support the guide because it represents a real opportunity to put the environmental agenda firmly at the heart of the fit-out sector. The guide demonstrates that environmental considerations are integral to all aspects of the project lifecycle – from planning, to design, the fit-out, and then handover etc. Having all the essential information in one place will really help to engage the critical stakeholders. An essential document for anyone involved in fit-out and refurbishments!

A launch event for the guide will be held on 16 March 2016 in London. Register here.

Copies of the Fit-out environmental good practice on site guide (C757) can be pre-ordered now.
