Project Story
Project Brief
We took on the challenge of delivering the CAT B refurbishment of a government building, a Grade II-listed space in Westminster.
The ambitious brief was to create a modern, flexible workplace that would support hybrid working, improve wellbeing and accessibility, and enhance long-term energy performance. All of this had to be delivered in a live environment, with staff relocated between floors to keep the building operational throughout.
This project was procured through the Southern Construction (SCF) Framework.
Project Solution
Across nearly 70,000 sq ft, we created an adaptable, collaborative workplace with open-plan layouts, hot-desking areas, breakout zones, and state-of-the-art conferencing facilities.
To prioritise wellbeing and inclusivity, we introduced sensory rooms, acoustic enhancements, improved lighting, and a calm, muted design palette.
We also modernised existing plant systems and installed new infrastructure to reduce the building’s carbon footprint, helping the customer move closer to its sustainability goals.
Outside the walls of the building, we delivered a wide-ranging programme of community engagement, supporting more than 1,000 young people through education, skills, and environmental projects. We also created new micro-forests in Westbourne Green by planting over 100 trees.
Project Outcome
- A hybrid-ready, inclusive workspace that meets the needs of a modern civil service
- Significant reductions in energy use through upgraded systems and smarter design
- Improved wellbeing and accessibility for staff and visitors alike
- Seamless delivery in a live environment with no disruption to core operations
- More than £47 million generated in social return on investment
