Project Story
Project Brief
We were appointed via the SCAPE 5 framework to transform 200 Buckingham Palace Road into a modern headquarters for the British Transport Police.
Our aim was to deliver an inclusive, sustainable workplace tailored to the operational and wellbeing needs of police personnel.
The building remained operational throughout, which required a carefully phased approach to allow early occupation and minimise disruption during delivery.
Project Solution
We completed a comprehensive refurbishment of all seven floors to create bright, open-plan office spaces.
Features include collaborative breakout zones, dedicated equipment space, and private changing areas – all designed with accessibility and flexibility in mind. The building is now fully DDA-compliant.
A new dual-access reception supports secure, separate entries for staff and visitors, while a striking front entrance enhances the arrival experience.
Sustainability is at the heart of the design, which uses new energy-efficient systems and upgrades to reduce operational costs and environmental impact.
Project Outcome
- A high-performance police headquarters, with inclusive and fully accessible features that reflect operational needs
- Reduced operational carbon footprint, supporting long-term sustainability goals
- Future-proofed infrastructure, including upgraded M&E services and fire safety systems
- Increased asset value, ensuring a strong return on investment for Places for London and TfL
- Social return on investment of over £8 million, with more than 100 young people supported through work experience and skills development
