Project Story
Project Brief
What was once a tired seven-storey office block in Birmingham has been reimagined into one of the city’s most environmentally sustainable workplaces.
We were contracted to deliver the CAT A refurbishment of 19 Cornwall Street on behalf of Kier Property.
The aim of the brief was to create 139,000 sq ft of SMART-enabled, net zero carbon workspace in the heart of Birmingham’s Colmore Business District.
Project Solution
The redevelopment saw the seven-storey building stripped back to its frame to enable a complete redesign inside and out.
A key feature of the project was the reconfiguration of the central atrium, which was reduced in size to maximise lettable floor space and built using sustainable materials.
We installed a striking new glass entrance and double-height reception that has transformed the building’s presence on Cornwall Street. Two ground floor commercial units were also created, each with its own dedicated entrance.
Internally, new tenant amenities support wellbeing and sustainable travel. They include showers, changing rooms, secure cycle storage, and 24 electric vehicle charging points, as well as a communal roof terrace and interactive breakout areas.
All MEP services have been replaced as part of an all-electric strategy, with 400 sq m of PV panels, VRF heating and cooling, and smart controls installed to optimise energy performance.
