Willmott Dixon Interiors has completed the refurbishment of Surrey Maths School (SuMS), creating a permanent learning environment tailored to the needs of students with a talent for mathematics and STEM subjects.
Formerly used as office space, the three-storey building in Guildford has been transformed into 28,911 sq ft of learning facilities.
The school’s completion provides a dedicated space designed to meet the specific needs of up to 200 students, aged 16 to 19.

Facilities include classrooms, quiet rooms, laboratories, and specialist provision for SEN students, alongside an auditorium, school hall, and canteen. Mechanical and electrical systems have been updated, including new lighting and air handling units, and improvements were made to the building’s roof and guttering.
This is Willmott Dixon Interiors’ first project delivered under the Department for Education construction framework. In line with the contractor’s commitment to social value, the project included opportunities for local students and schools, such as work experience placements, site visits, and the employment of T-level students.

Nick Kent, project director at Willmott Dixon Interiors said: “Completing Surrey Maths School has allowed us to deliver a more environmentally sustainable building and create an environment that supports learning. Transforming a former office into a school has drawn on our experience in delivering higher and further education facilities, and we are proud to hand over a space that will benefit students for years to come.”
Willmott Dixon Interiors has extensive experience delivering education refurbishments across the UK. Its projects range from academic and administrative spaces to student accommodation and libraries, supporting the diverse needs of both staff and students.
