Trainees transform care home for Jubilee House Care Trust

A care home in Hertfordshire that supports children and adults with learning disabilities and autism has reopened following a refurbishment project led by management trainees at Willmott Dixon Interiors.

Jubilee House was formally opened during a special ceremony attended by MP for Welwyn Hatfield, Andrew Lewin, Mayor of the Borough of Welwyn Hatfield, Cllr Lynn Chesterman OBE, and local councillors.

For almost 50 years, Jubilee House Care Trust has delivered individually tailored residential care, respite and support services across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire and North London boroughs. The refurbishment has transformed Jubilee House into a modern care home that will support residents and families for years to come.

The charity holds personal significance for management trainee Glenn Harrison, who led this year’s challenge. His twin brothers, Alex and Cameron, were born with a rare condition that damages the brain’s white matter. Alex sadly died in childhood, while Cameron passed away in 2025 at the age of 29.

Glenn said: “I’m incredibly proud to have completed this journey with my fellow trainees and want to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported us along the way.

“Most importantly, we want to thank Jubilee House Care Trust for allowing us to be part of something connected to such a deeply personal and meaningful cause. It has been a privilege to contribute towards the incredible work they do in not only helping families cope but also ensuring those affected are not facing this journey alone.”

Each year, Willmott Dixon Interiors’ management trainees take on a challenge that combines fundraising with hands-on community support. This year’s project supported both Jubilee House Care Trust and Alex TLC, a London-based charity that provides support and information for people affected by a group of rare neurological disorders.

Works at Jubilee House included new flooring, redecoration and improvements to every room across both floors of the building, alongside external cleaning to pavements and the building façade, as well as landscaping to create a welcoming outdoor space for staff and service users.

   

Operations manager for the project, Temi Oladapo, added: “What started as scope reviews and site visits evolved into a full residential refurbishment. I’m still overwhelmed and elated by what we’ve accomplished. I’ve learnt so much about leadership, programming and working on site. This project was truly amazing.”

The refurbishment of Jubilee House was delivered with the support of Willmott Dixon Interiors’ supply chain partners. The management trainee team also included Diana Ndudirim, Josh Jennings, Jasmine Ismond, Amy Braganza, Luca Murzell, Lydia Cheek, Adam Kennar and William Harris.

Technical Apprentice Programme

Apprenticeships are a great route into construction. At Willmott Dixon, apprenticeships are available in our business support teams and also through our supply chain partners or our sister company, Fortem, in trade disciplines such as bricklaying.

We offer some entry level positions for those who are looking to take their first steps into construction. With a paid apprenticeship you will earn while you learn and obtain a Level 3 qualification. You can apply following GCSEs; you don’t to have a construction background to complete an apprenticeship.
