Willmott Dixon Interiors to deliver new chapter at Edmonton Green

Willmott Dixon Interiors will deliver new office and meeting space above the flagship library at Edmonton Green in north London, as part of a £2.6 million refurbishment project.

The works, procured through SCAPE, one of the UK’s leading public sector procurement authorities, form part of Enfield Council’s Build the Change programme and will see space above Edmonton Green Library refurbished as a hub for all staff supporting housing and homelessness services.

The project will bring the office space in line with the public library, which was renovated in 2017 to create a contemporary, accessible space.

Enfield Council has chosen Willmott Dixon Interiors to deliver the transformation of existing space on the second floor of the two-storey building, above the library.

Willmott Dixon Interiors will carry out substantial alterations to the interior and exterior of the building, creating a large, open plan office space and flexible meeting spaces.

As part of these works a new mechanical plant will be installed on the roof, including a new air handling unit, condenser unit and air conditioning units. New partitions will be installed with glazed screens, movable partitions, as well as a new kitchen area, new toilets and shower areas, new MEP installation throughout, suspended acoustic baffles and raised access flooring. Externally, new large windows are being installed to the east elevation which will incorporate new steel wind posts and beams to create the increased structural openings.

Public services will continue to be available at the library on the ground floor.

Graham Shaw, managing director at Willmott Dixon Interiors, said: “Enfield Council’s Build the Change programme recognises the need to deliver modern office space and bring services closer to people who need them most. We’ll be delivering a new, flexible workspace at Edmonton Green that will provide an enhanced working environment for staff. We’re looking forward to working in partnership with colleagues from the council to deliver this project.”

Mark Robinson, group chief executive at SCAPE, said: “Enfield Council and Willmott Dixon Interiors are creating spaces and places that will attract investment and serve the local community. How we work in the workplace has changed significantly over the past decade and adapting spaces that are modern and flexible are vital to retaining and attracting a talented workforce.”

The project team includes architect, TP Bennett; quantity surveyor, Stace LLP; and Pick Everard as project manager and services engineer.
