Kate Hoey MP helps out at Slade Gardens!

The WDI trainee challenge is seeing the whole company in  action this week transforming a rundown community gardens and youth centre in Stockwell, something which has gone down so well even the MP Kate Hoey came along to help out!

Working in partnership with the charity London Youth, we are renovating the youth centre and surrounding area at Slade Gardens by adding new flooring, lighting, heating systems, doorways, storage and double glazing. The week-long project also gives 5 young people from London Youth a chance to gain work experience and learn interview and CV presentation skills, along with H&S and environmental training.

Natalie Briden explains about the project, “The centre was in desperate need of a refresh as it’s an important place for toddler/youth activities and following a recent Local Authority inspection it was deemed ‘not fit for purpose’. We couldn’t have that so stepped in and are all doing our but this week. By the end of the week, the mega makeover will make the centre suitable and fit for purpose. It will cater for up to 150 young people per day throughout the summer holidays and now also through the winter months with school clubs.
