Project Story
Project Brief
Willmott Dixon Interiors has been chosen to undertake the refurbishment of the Grade II listed Sanctuary Buildings, in the heart of Westminster, central London. This Cat B refurbishment includes stripping out the 1990’s interior and replacing this with a modern office space. This project will provide a sustainable and streamlined office environment for the Department for Education (DfE), ensuring its headquarters are fit for purpose for years to come.
This project was procured through the Southern Construction (SCF) Framework.
Project Solution
The project will deliver collaborative and open plan workspaces, including hot desking facilities and staff breakout areas, as well as new meeting rooms with state-of-the-art conferencing technology. The works also include the installation of new mechanical and electrical (M&E) infrastructure to the floors, refurbished toilets, and office space over the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th floors.
The upgraded plant facilities are part of DfE’s decarbonisation agenda. The infrastructure will also support the future use of photovoltaic solar panelling.
Project Outcome
On completion, the refurbishment will provide:
- 6 floors refurbished into a more modern and efficient office space
- Features that directly cater for those with sensory, cognitive, physical or developmental needs, characterised by its focus on diversity and inclusion
- Improved lighting, superior acoustic properties and a muted colour palette
