Willmott Dixon Interiors has handed over the third phase of a refurbishment in West Yorkshire which has transformed more than 90,000 sq ft of commercial office space.
The refurbishment of level seven, Quarry House in Leeds, has updated c.14,000 sq ft of city centre office accommodation.
Two open plan office areas have been modernised with breakout rooms, collaborative workspace, lockers, kitchen facilities and desk space for 120 staff. New M&E services have enhanced the building’s energy efficiency.
The £4 million refurbishment was via Procurement Hub and took just over a year to complete.
It is the third phase of a project which began in 2018 with the CAT B fit-out and refurbishment of 64,583 sq ft on level two of the ten-storey building. A further 12,000 sq ft of office space has since been upgraded on level eight.
Quarry House first opened in 1993 as the new headquarters of the Department of Health and Social Security and included a gym, swimming pool and landscaped gardens.
Roger Forsdyke, chief operating officer at Willmott Dixon Interiors, said: “We are extremely proud to have completed work on the third phase of refurbishment at Quarry House. This is a landmark office building that houses core government services and the single largest government department in DWP.
“Each phase of the project has been focused on the delivery of modern, flexible and safe office accommodation for people to work in post-Covid, with light, open and airy environments that enhance wellbeing. Our teams have worked incredibly hard over a significant period of time to ensure that this vision has been realised.”
Willmott Dixon Interiors’ project team secured a national Considerate Constructors Scheme Award for the quality of its delivery at Quarry House.
The contractor also delivered a comprehensive programme of social value-led activities in parallel with the main works. It included:
- Working with 100 students at Barnsley College on the design, construction and presentation of a proposed building for the local community.
- A construction sector programme at HMP Leeds, engaging inmates in sessions covering topics such as personal branding, mindset and resilience.
- Partnering with Faithful+Gould to deliver a construction workshop at a senior school in Leeds.
- An employability programme for women at HMP New Hall, with a focus on routes into construction and positive mindset.
- Supporting Leeds Mencap via an Easter Egg collection.
