Central Library at Imperial College completed in 7 weeks!

68. Imperial College LondonOur Senior Building Manager Gary Williams was responsible for the remodel & refurbishment of levels 3 & 4. His challenge was working on a live University campus with limited site storage and access for materials and plant including steelwork and air handling units. The library was in use throughout, so neither internal staircases or lift cores could be used.

Gary’s site access solution included:
Removing the windows in a staff room close to where the work was to take place on the fourth floor. A new staff facility was built, with partitions segregating the site from the staff.

The new access was reached along a 75ft gantry walkway from a small compound in a car park area that we used for the transfer of materials. The walkway led to a hoist and staircase to the site areas.

Because the site was operating a double shift, there was a clean floor policy. Materials brought to work area ‘just in time’ were either used or removed before the next shift .

This £3.5m project was delivered in 7 weeks to a delighted client  – Well done Team!
