WILLMOTT DIXON INTERIORS IS PROUD TO HAVE OBTAINED ANOTHER OUTSTANDING SCORE FOR THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH’S OFFICES IN CENTRAL LEEDS IN THE CONSIDERATE CONSTRUCTORS SCHEME REPORT.
Building on the success of the refurbishment and remodelling of a second floor at Quarry House, Leeds where Willmott Dixon Interiors previously received a national silver award in the Considerate Constructors Scheme report, this year the project team were very proud to have improved the overall CCS score for the refurbishment of level 8 within the same building which commenced on 8th February 2021.
The project is being delivered in a live environment and includes a CAT B fit-out and refurbishment of 11840.3 sq ft of commercial office space in Leeds. It involves the modernisation of the internal arrangements on a single-level, utilising a new office design and layout of approx. 130 desks. The area compromises of a mixture of fixed- and hot-desking with all ancillary and support facilities provided within the self-contained office floor.

Willmott Dixon Interiors scored an exemplary overall score of 45 out of 50 within the CCS report, which demonstrates:
- Our commitment to improving the appearance of construction.
- Implementing our health and safety measures, by ensuring access to the operational area is protected by biometrically operated turnstiles to ensure non-site personnel cannot gain access and put themselves at risk.
- Respecting our company policies for equality, diversity inclusion and fair treatment of our workforce.
- Considerations for the local community including:
- Recycling carpet tiles by donating them to HMP service for Yorkshire and Humber also 4 YORKS, The Yorkshire Regiment.
- The team also donated the office furniture to the local MENCAP branch to upgrade their offices in Leeds, other furniture donations went to the Yorkshire and Humberside prison service HMP, to 4 YORKS, The Yorkshire Regiment and the team also shipped the remaining redundant chairs and tables to schools in The Gambia. Protection of the environment by:
- Supporting local social enterprises such as providing our scrap and surplus timbers to Leeds Wood Recycling Project and continuing our approach towards sustainability.
- Sponsoring 2 beehives with the local Leeds Bee Keeping Association and sponsoring a local scouting association to build 20 bug hotels.
Improving Technology
New technology has also been implemented for the control of the security turnstiles with facial recognition and thermal cameras. This has been further extended with a CCTV system on the operational area to identify potential contravention of PPE wearing and the disability of an individual. The system sends text messages to all first aiders in the event that someone falls to the floor and does not move for 5 seconds.
Other benefits of the system are:
- Refuses Entry/Exit if a face mask is not worn.
- Records forehead temperatures.
- Refuses entry if someone has a temperature and emails the site team.
Investing in the community
As part of our social investment strategy, we have looked to support the local community further by working with our supply chain partners to donate 635 Easter eggs to Mencap and other deserving causes, the collection of coats as part of the Wrap Up Winter campaign for the homeless and food for the local foodbank.
We also ran an artwork competition for students at Leeds Art University for the designs of a mural to be displayed in the building, with the successful students commission currently underway.
In addition to this, we have an Industry Placement for a local student set to begin at the end of June, offering valuable insight and support from industry professionals, an opportunity to put theory learned into practice and an invaluable experience of working on a live site.
